In Vietnam, the 1st Squadron 9th Cavalry Regiment built its reputation on speed, observation, and precision in a way that hadn’t been done before.
At the center of it was a simple idea. See the enemy first.
Operating as one of the Army’s first cavalry units, Small scout helicopters like the OH-6 Cayuse flew low and slow, often drawing fire just to locate enemy positions. Once contact was made, attack aircraft like the Bell AH-1 Cobra were already inbound.
It was aggressive and it worked. They were truly pioneers in shaping the fight instead of reacting to it.
That approach became the foundation for modern reconnaissance and attack aviation. The idea that information creates advantage still holds today.
Find. Fix. Finish.
